26-year old Englishman Darren Woods won the the $2,500 Six-Handed Limit Hold’em Championship at the WSOP and made an interesting comment comparing no-limit and limit tournaments. Whilst no-limit is based on luck much more, in no-limit tournaments the long-term strategy counts and the young player feels that if given more chances, he has much better prospects of winning. This year he made his third trip to Las Vegas and whilst he cashed in four events last year, this year he got to a final table for the first time and his first time to win gold. The difference between the importance of long-term strategy or one-time luck has been in the centre of many debates on poker in general and played a major role in several lawsuits where the ruling was based on the very nature of poker – as a game of chance or as a game of skill. |
